Trailside Yoga will teach a special class at the garden on the Great Lawn in honor of the summer solstice.
The class will be approximately two hours long, as students do 108 sun salutations. Sun salutations are a series of yoga poses that include upward facing dog and downward facing dog. The repetition creates a deep sense of focus and mindfulness.
Why 108 of them? The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. The number 108 also has many symbolic meanings in disciplines ranging from religion, to martial arts, yoga and even mathematics.
The class will begin at 9:00 am and is free and open to the public. RSVP’s are encouraged on the Facebook event page.
