The botanical garden will hold butterfly and nature summer camps for children ages 8-12 this summer! Registration information coming soon!
Butterfly Camp: The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will host a five day Butterfly Camp for children ages 8 to 12 years old this summer. BGO butterfly volunteers will lead campers through hands-on lessons, citizen science projects and pollinator activities. Campers will be able to explore butterflies, caterpillars and eggs close up, and will learn to distinguish between different types of eggs using a hand lens. The group will also examine which plants are best for pollinators and participate in real data collection. Topics for study include: habitat, life cycles, butterfly behaviors and coloration and defense.
Campers will leave with an appreciation for butterflies and other pollinators. All campers will also receive a caterpillar and caterpillar keeper/cage to raise at home! Campers will meet at the Education Cottage and Butterfly Gardens and should bring a sack lunch each day. The camp will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day.
Price: $150 per camper for the week, plus a $25 nonrefundable material fee and deposit. Registration coming soon!
Nature Camp: Day campers will learn about various aspects of nature through art, activities and games. Topics will include plants, including carnivorous plants, insects including butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. Much of the activities will be hands on, creative, and/or artistic. Each day students will bring home art or make and take something home that benefits the nature in their yard. Activities will mostly take place outside, weather permitting. Snacks will be provided but campers should bring a sack lunch each day.
