Young Birder’s Class for Homeschoolers
Wednesday March 28th 10:00 am-12:00 pm
For children ages 8 to 12 years old
Bring your young naturalists to the Botanical Garden for a morning of all things birds! Students will learn how to use binoculars to watch birds, get a really close view through a spotting scope and learn tricks for identifying birds. Students will examine the different kinds of nests that birds create and find out what materials they use. Following these activities, we will create kits of nest-building materials for students to take home. Workshop instructors include Kelly and Donna Mulhollan, along with Kitty Sanders. Kelly and Donna, better known as the folk duo Still on the Hill, have been teaching ornithology for the Arkansas Audubon Summer Camps for 17 years. Kitty Sanders is the garden’s Butterfly House Mentor, a retired teacher and avid birder.
Students may be dropped off but families are encouraged to enjoy the garden, meet up with other homeschool families and mingle afterwards.
Cost per student: $10 for garden members or $15 for non-members. The fee includes the student’s garden admission, class instructions and all materials. Space for this class is limited and registration is required.
